Ahmed Musa names 1 big player who is benefiting from Ighalo's retirement at Super Eagles
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has revealed that Odion Ighalo is being missed at the national team stressing that the Manchester United on-loan striker contributed a lot to the team before his retirement.
Odion Ighalo retired from the Nigerian national senior men's team after the 2019 African Nations Cup where the Super Eagles finished as third best in the championship.
His retirement came as a surprise to many Nigerians considering how he has been leading the Super Eagles attack.
Efforts were made by concerned football administrators to make sure Odion Ighalo returns to the Super Eagles, but the former Watford man has snubbed the calls.
While speaking exclusively with Legit.ng on Instagram live video, Ahmed Musa made it clear that Odion Ighalo's decision must be respected even though it was painful when he left Super Eagles.
''I think before he (Ighalo) retired, we need him a lot and till now we still miss him but he has his own decision which we must all respect.
He had to step down to give a lot of young players the opportunity to show themselves.
''We miss him and there is nothing anyone can do because that was his decision and that is football,''
Musa also revealed that Odion Ighalo's retirement gave Victor Osimhen the chance to lead Super Eagles attack which he has grabbed superbly.
"As you can see, after his (Ighalo) retirement, Osimhen has been very hot.
Now the spot is for him and he is doing very good.
That's why sometimes you never know we have more talents, unless someone steps down for another," Ahmed Musa explained.
