A major aspect of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the development of indigenous ICT capacity for national prosperity. We believe that stimulating the minds of young Nigerians to consider the adoption of technology to address everyday problems around them can contribute to achieving this objective.
Annual Children’s Day Essay Competition
In furtherance of our technology capacity development focused CSR, we inaugurated in 2020 the SystemSpecs Annual Essay Competition that presents children between ages 9-16 an opportunity to think of solving specific national problems with technology.
2022 Edition – Participation Details
Topic: Improving the Quality of Education in Nigeria using Technology.
- Junior (age 9-12) – maximum 1,000 words
- Senior (age 13-16) – maximum 1,500 words
Entry Guidelines
- Language: English
- Number of entries per participant: One (more than one entry submission per participant invalidates your entry and automatically disqualifies you)
- Originality of Thoughts: Entry submission must be the participant’s original thoughts. No plagiarism.
- Submission Portal Opens: 10:00 am, March 21, 2022
- Submission Portal Closes: 6:00 pm, April 20, 2022
- Entry Endorsement: Entry must be endorsed by an accredited school official or Parent or Legal Guardian.
- Eligibility: Children in Nigeria that are 9 years and not older than 16 years by March 21, 2022
- Winners Announcement: Friday, May 27, 2022
- Award Ceremony: Friday, June 10, 2022
TERMS & CONDITIONS DEFINITIONS
In this Terms and Condition:
- References to “You” or “Your” refers to a Participant and his parent/guardian who has validly provided his consent for his child/ward to participate in this competition.
- References to “We” or “Us” refers to SystemSpecs Limited or its assigns.
- Any reference to the masculine gender includes a reference to the feminine gender, and vice versa
- A “Participant” is defined as a person who has satisfied the eligibility criteria for this competition and who has taken steps to partake in it.
CONFIRMATION OF ELIGIBILITY
- Given that this competition is for persons under the age of eighteen years old, any person shall only be eligible to participate in this competition if he obtains consent in a manner prescribed by SystemSpecs, from his parent, guardian or teacher/Accredited school official. An intending participant may be required to provide proof of age, in addition to the consent from his parent, guardian or teacher/accredited school official, at any stage during or after the competition.
- By submitting your essay, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win.
- If you decide to opt out of the competition, or if you decide to withdraw your consent for us to process your information and/or use any content provided by you, please send an email to participate@systemspecs.com.ng. Until we receive an email from you withdrawing your consent for us to use the information and/content you have provided, you shall be bound by the General Terms and Conditions of this competition.
SUBMISSION OF ESSAYS
1. All Essays submitted with the intention of participating in this competition will be judged based on the following criteria:
- No plagiarism
- Original ideas
- Relevant and applicable references to indigenous solutions in Nigeria.
- Well-referenced sources.
2. If you proceed to submit your essay using the entry submission portal below, you automatically grant SystemSpecs and its assigns the right to use and process any information and/or content provided by you in this competition for all purposes relating to your participation in this competition. Your information shall be processed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations on Data protection including Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019.
3. The essay submitted by you must be your original work and must not infringe the rights of any other party. SystemSpecs shall not be responsible if you ignore these terms, and you agree to indemnify SystemSpecs against any claim by any third party from any breach of these terms and conditions.
4. You retain the copyright in your essay, but you grant to SystemSpecs a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast (across all media) and post the entry online and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged, together with your name and age. This licence will be deemed to include all the necessary rights and permissions to enable SystemSpecs complete the administration of this Competition.
5. By submitting your essay, you agree that SystemSpecs may in its sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge or translate your essay as it may deem fit to complete the administration of this competition. Even if you do not win, we may, for example, publish your essay or excerpts from it as a runner-up in the Competition.
6. You grant SystemSpecs, its assigns and its agents the right to use your name, picture, likeness, voice, biographical information and statements for promotional purposes without additional compensation, in all media now known or hereafter discovered, worldwide and on the Internet, without recourse to you.
USE OF YOUR INFORMATION
1. You understand that SystemSpecs will use any personal information that you have provided or will provide, for the purposes of the Competition, and for any promotional and/or other purposes you may indicate your consent to. We may also share your details with our partners, agents, sponsors for the purpose of providing prizes on our behalf.
2. Your information shall be processed in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations on data protection, particularly the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019.

GENERAL
- SystemSpecs shall not be liable for any damage, loss or disappointment suffered by you taking part or not being able to take part in this Competition, or from being unable to claim your prize in this competition.
- To the widest extent permitted by law, SystemSpecs shall not in any circumstance, be responsible or liable to compensate any competitor or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up a prize except where it is caused by SystemSpecs’ negligence.
- In the event of unforeseen circumstances, we may alter, amend or foreclose this competition without prior notice to you.
- Children & wards of SystemSpecs Employees are not eligible to participate in the competition.
- We reserve the right to change these terms at any time.
